Tom Salzer was appointed to the NCDEA Board of Directors for the Pacific Region in May 2017. In October 2017, he was appointed to serve as one of two NCDEA representatives on the National Association of Conservation District‘s Tribal Outreach and Partnership Resource Policy Group. Tom also chairs NCDEA’s Communications Committee and sits on the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) Communications Committee.
Tom has worked with and for conservation districts since 1992, managing district operations and providing statewide help on governance, technology, and accountability issues. He was the manager of a small, rural conservation district in northeast Washington State.
He worked for more than 12 years for the Washington State Conservation Commission. He has been a board director of a state association of conservation districts and the president of a statewide employee’s association.
Prior to his conservation career, Tom was a geologist specializing in gold and silver deposits. He has worked in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Nevada, and Indonesia.
