State awards $200,000 grant to study how human and animal poop makes its way into shellfish

WASHINGTON – A $200,000 grant will fund a project that will use microbial source tracking to find out where the fecal coliform bacteria contamination in Pierce County shellfish is coming from. A project funded by the State Conservation Commission will trace fecal contamination back to its source, be it human or animal.
